It is with joy and a sense of overwhelming gratitude that I, together with the Board of AsiaCMS, hereby announce the appointment of Rev. Dr. Chan Nam Chen as the Executive Director of our organisation.
After several rounds of dialogue during a global search and selection process that lasted for almost four months, the Board has discerned that Rev. Dr. Chan demonstrates the competency, experiences, and character required for the office and has unanimously voted to call Rev. Dr. Chan to the position. The commencement date of the new Executive Director will be January 1st, 2018.
Rev. Dr. Chan is originally from Malaysia. At the time of this appointment, he is the District Superintendent of Sabah for the Assemblies of God, Malaysia.
In 2016, he obtained his PhD in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary in the U.S. focusing on intercultural leadership effectiveness.
Dr. Chan is a seasoned practitioner, having been a cross-cultural church planter with different ethnic groups including an unreached people group, and later training church-planting teams. He also served as the senior pastor of a considerably large church that mobilised and sent out long term missionaries, overseas.
At the same time, he has also availed himself at conferences and teaching invitations from seminaries periodically. Indeed, apart from his declared ministry goals of getting people saved and planting churches, Dr. Chan carries with him the passion of raising leadership in mission.
He is of the conviction that mission in Asia requires the crossing of all types of boundaries, not merely that of geography and ethnicity. In his own words, Dr. Chan stated that “the critical role for AsiaCMS is to help facilitate and forge mutual partnerships between the different parts of the Church; partnerships that are less about ‘how may we help you?’ but more of ‘how can we do it together?’
I look forward to Dr. Chan’s leadership and fellowship in the Asian mission context. I trust we all will, too.
In His service, Francis K. Tsui Chair, AsiaCMS Berhad
