17 Feb AsiaCMS Welcomes Two New Board Members and Farewells Two
The AsiaCMS Board of Trustees recently welcomed two new members into their governance team and bid farewell to two stalwarts, who with decorum had led the initial phase of the life of AsiaCMS. Bishop Andy Shie, the Assistant Bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Kuching, comprising Sarawak and Brunei, and Mrs. Margaret Loy, the Chief Executive Officer of the Community Transforming Initiative (CTI) in Malaysia has joined the Board of Trustees.
Bishop Andy is the Vicar of an Anglican church in the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam. He also serves as an Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Kuching, covering Sarawak in East Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. He brings the ethos of mission, reminding all of us that we are called to be salt, light, and yeast.
Margaret Loy is a distinguished legal expert, having worked in New Zealand and Malaysia, and now heads the CTI with varied engagements in social justice and empowerment of the marginalised. She is also a Children’s Court Advisor for the Petaling district. She brings rich experience in youth and children-focused ministries, as well as the legal nuances of mission.
The AsiaCMS Board of Trustees is committed to the existing rotation policy, to maintain freshness and creativity in their governance. As such, the Board bid farewell to Bishop Pradeep Kumar Samantaroy and Rev. Aeduk Kim, both of who completed their terms in office on the 31st of December 2022.
Bishop Samantaroy, popularly called Bunu, is the Bishop of Amritsar of the Church of North India and is currently also General Secretary of the CNI, along with various other global responsibilities. He was a key figure in the birthing and teething process of AsiaCMS and guided the Decentralisation, Regionalisation, and Internationalisation of the Church Mission Society with great acumen.
Rev. Aeduk Kim from South Korea is an Anglican Minister who brought a rich pastoral experience to the Board and had very clear views about mission and mission movements. ACMS Board will truly miss these two mission leaders.
The Board of Trustees has also decided that Rev. Vinod Victor (India, now Chaplain of the Anglican Church of Freiburg- Germany) will continue as its Chair and Canon Andrew Khoo (Malaysia) as the Vice Chair. Together with them, the Executive Committee will comprise Pax Tan (Malaysia) and Francis Tsui (Hong Kong). The other members of the Board of Trustees are Dr. Haroon Lal Din (Pakistan), Rev. Li Il Ho (South Korea), and Ms. Juliate Malakar (Bangladesh).
It is expected that Samuel Ponniah (Sri Lanka) will join the Board this year. The Board prayerfully continues its diligent search for the right persons to join the Governance team. The next Board meeting is expected to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh later this year.
