Deborah* works among people with disabilities and their families, as well as people from underprivileged backgrounds. During the first quarter of 2024, the organisation she works with collaborated with other institutions, individuals, and organisations to promote inclusion and empowerment in their community. This included adapting classes offering a wide range of activities to nurture the skills of people who are differently abled, a collaboration on art for red packets for an event, and calendar design work.
Other activities focused on supplying essential food and giving entrepreneurial and life skill training to families and individuals experiencing financial hardships in a rural part of the country. Furthermore, their youth program, and community service and training focus on understanding and building relationships with marginalised groups, for mutual appreciation and benefit. A volunteer found that the training helped him understand how to better encourage his two nephews who are differently abled.
In February, they hosted a Cultural Show that embraced music and dance skills of multiple individuals that they work with. Guests included diplomatic corps from Bangladesh, China, Philippines, and Laos, along with the extended community from within the organisation.
“God chose the foolish, weak, and lowly things of the world to shame and nullify the wise, strong, and mighty things.” (1 Corinthians 1:27)
The event was a testimony to this verse for them. Guests saw the potential of those who are often overlooked. Parents beamed with pride over the courage and abilities of their children, which have been, often, pushed aside. The participants themselves were left feeling inspired to undertake new challenges and engage more socially.
Pray for:
- Those who are differently abled to be empowered through education and the skills to help them achieve their full potential and flourish.
- Good partnerships and human resources to make education, training, and employment more accessible and sustainable to those who are differently abled.
- Open hearts as gateways for the gospel to be shared, a sense of hope, and unity in the rural community that they work with.
